Message South Africa launched on March 3 with a special gathering in Cape Town. Andy and Michele Hawthorne joined Tim Tucker, Message SA’s national director, for this landmark event.

‘The reason I’m excited to be part of The Message and launching here in South Africa is because of the track record that Andy and The Message team have in the UK as being God’s agents of transformation amongst the toughest-to-reach communities,’ said Tim said on the night. ‘We’ve seen and experienced how God can move the last, least and lost from  their point of crisis to becoming beacons of hope.’

Message South Africa’s first outreach project will be a prisons ministry team. Team members Mark Slessenger and Adam Bull will be working in partnership with government Correctional Services and other prison ministries to run pre-release programmes and help find accommodation, employment and support for ex-offenders.

The team is currently recruiting for a team leader for our first ever international Eden project, Eden Salt River, aiming to bring transformation to one of Cape Town’s poorest communities. Several other local churches have also expressed interest in bringing Eden to their neighbourhoods.

Says Tim, ‘I believe that God has a special purpose for Eden in South Africa and beyond. Eden is a powerful statement of reconciliation, of our one-ness in Christ and to address the challenge of inequality and injustice in our country.’
